#KnoxvilleJobDone: City Engineers Build and Maintain Miles and Miles of Infrastructure
Did you know that the City’s Engineering Department each year oversees the paving of about 50 miles of streets and the repair and new construction of about 3.2 miles of sidewalk?
This week is National Public Works Week, so it’s an appropriate time to salute the accomplishments of the City’s hard-working public works employees. Today, we’re highlighting the Engineering Department.
City engineers are currently managing 23 infrastructure construction projects, funded at $42.4 million, with 43 additional projects in the engineering design stage.

Did you also know that the City’s Engineering Department maintains 392 signalized traffic signals, 1,200 parking meters, 1,100 miles of street markings, 50,000 roadway signs and 30,000 streetlights?
In addition, Engineering has rehabilitated or replaced more than 2,600 linear feet of storm sewer pipe this fiscal year.
