City Crews to Start Soon on Construction of New Adair Park / Sue Clancy Greenway Extension
Great to celebrate and break ground on the Adair Park / Sue Clancy Greenway Extension!

An enthusiastic crowd gathered near the northern bank of Lynnhurst Creek in Fountain City on a warm, sunny late morning on Nov. 17.

Using Public Service Department heavy equipment, Mayor Indya Kincannon and Fred Berry of Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home officially broke ground on the Adair Park / Sue Clancy Greenway Extension.

Many thanks to the Berry family, Berry Lynnhurst Funeral Home and Lynnhurst Cemetery, Knoxville Utilities Board and Legacy Parks Foundation for making this strategic greenway connector possible.

In the coming months, City Public Service crews will be clearing underbrush and building a 10-foot-wide greenway path.

This new greenway is only a half-mile long, but it’s critically important. It will connect to the 3,800-foot-long sidewalk just completed along Old Broadway. The City's $3 million investment in the new sidewalks created a safe detour for bicyclists and pedestrians around the busy intersection of Broadway and I-640.

Soon, Adair Park visitors, residents of the Park at Fountain City apartments and others will be able to easily and safely commute from north of the Interstate 640 / Broadway intersection to neighborhoods and points south of Sharps Ridge - continuing all the way to downtown and other destinations.
