Fort Sanders, Looking Sharp!...
Fort Sanders, Looking Sharp! Upgrades Being Done During Summer Break to Minimize Inconvenience
Fort Sanders is unique: It's colorful, historic, and — home to thousands of UT students — it's also the City's most densely populated neighborhood.
City upgrades in the Fort are often scheduled during the summer, to take advantage of UT summer break.
Rogers Group has finished repaving streets throughout Fort Sanders, and City paint crews will continue to stripe and define parking spaces in the coming weeks.
The condensed 3-week resurfacing timeframe was by design. Other large operations are happening in Fort Sanders, and the work is carefully scheduled to dovetail together and minimize the impact on residents, businesses and the hospitals.
Through mid-August, Southern Constructors Inc. crews will be making minor repairs to the 17th Street Bridge that will safely extend the lifespan of the 87-year-old bridge. The bridge will remain open, but the number of traffic lanes is reduced from four to two.
Also, City Urban Forestry crews are pruning and caring for trees along Cumberland Avenue. And Public Service crews will take advantage of fewer cars parked in the Fort this summer to clean up leaves and litter than have collected in the nooks and crannies.
Thank you to the whole team for helping to make Fort Sanders look and be its best!
