Homicide Investigation Underway After Body Found on Broadway Bridge
A homicide investigation is underway after Knoxville Police Department officers responded to a suspicious death on the Broadway bridge on Wednesday afternoon.
At around 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2023, KPD Central District officers responded to the Broadway bridge, between W. Depot Avenue and W. Jackson Avenue. Officers responded to a report that a man was laying on the sidewalk and unresponsive. The man, since identified as 35-year-old Travis Brown of Knoxville, was pronounced dead after first responders arrived at the scene.
The body was transported to the Regional Forensic Center for a full examination. Though a determination regarding cause of death has not been made, detectives believe that Brown was the victim of foul play.
Jayshawn Williams, 36 of Knoxville, has since been identified as a person of interest. KPD Homicide Unit detectives are actively working to locate Williams, who is known to frequent the downtown Knoxville area. Williams can be seen in the attached surveillance photo obtained by detectives in the course of the investigation.
Anyone with info concerning Williams’ whereabouts is urged to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165 or online at
www.easttnvalleycrimestoppers.org
. Tipsters can remain anonymous.
The investigation is ongoing at this time.
