Downtown Parking Tip Sheet: Sept. 7
In light of the upcoming State Street Garage construction that will add two decks and 500-plus spaces, the City’s communication team is starting a regular blog feature to help direct visitors to available parking opportunities on weekends when downtown is hopping, especially on home UT Football weekends.

While the reduction of spaces in the State Street Garage won’t begin for a few more weeks, let’s start getting in the habit of knowing where to park before going to park.

This weekend:

Friday: Comedian Aziz Ansari is performing a very nearly absolutely secret show at the Bijou Theatre tonight. A pay lot is located right next door, but if you’re in the market for free parking, the Dwight Kessel garage is located just down the hill, on the corner of E. Hill and State Street.

Three Dog Night is performing at the Knoxville Civic Coliseum

Friday is also First Friday, which is now a 15-year-old tradition in downtown Knoxville. Wow.

Jennifer Garner’s new movie, Peppermint, opens at Regal Cinema 8

Saturday: The Market Square Farmers’ Market is 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. on Market Square. The Market Square Garage is free on weekends—even Football Saturdays. If you hesitate to buy a lot of fresh produce, flowers, plants, farm-raised beef and homemade cheese because you don’t want to haul it to your car, check out the Veggie Valet on the pavilion at Wall Avenue. Market volunteers will watch your purchases while you pull your car around to Wall Avenue and load it up.

The inaugural Old City Market will be held Saturday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Jackson Avenue between State and Central streets, and continue on second Saturdays through December. Find out what makers make, artists create and discover food trucks and a beer garden. Metered parking on the Gay Street Viaduct; free parking on East Jackson Ave under the underpass.

UT's game against ETSU begins at 4 p.m. Learn more about on-campus parking options and how you can use KAT buses and shuttles to get to and from Neyland Stadium.

Upcoming in the week:

Michael McDonald at the Historic Tennessee Theatre, 7:30 p.m.
