Congratulations to the Knoxville Police Department's newest Captain and Lieutenant, both promoted in a brief ceremony today at the Civic Coliseum Reception Hall.

Capt. John R. Kiely, a KPD veteran since 1998, is the West District Patrol Commander. Lt. Tracy A. Hunter, who has served since 1999, soon will be commanding a patrol squad. Combined, Capt. Kiely and Lt. Hunter have 33 years of service with KPD.

Mayor Madeline Rogero congratulated the honorees on their fine service and well-earned promotions, saying, "We’re reinforcing the notion throughout KPD that, if you train seriously, and if you demonstrate teamwork with your partners and unit leaders, and if you show initiative, then you can move up at KPD."

The Mayor also acknowledged the tough job that KPD officers face daily.

"I stand in awe," she said, praising the professionalism and dedication of the City's police officers and noting their acts of compassion.

Mayor Rogero addresses the attendees at today's promotion ceremony.

The KPD Honor Guard presented the colors before Natali Peters sang the National Anthem.
