On Thursday, April 12, Mayor Rogero joined kids from the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Tennessee Valley (BGCTNV) for a pick-up game of whiffle ball in World’s Fair Park.

Check out the full recap of the pick-up game here:

The game was part of the City of Knoxville’s celebration of Play Ball, an initiative led by Major League Baseball and the U.S. Conference of Mayors to promote baseball and softball to youth.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of America is a new partner in the national initiative and Bart McFadden, BGCTNV President and CEO, joined Mayor Rogero in announcing the City’s continued commitment to Play Ball.

In the game, Mayor Rogero led off at the plate with courtesy runners racing around the bases for her.

Next, each kid had an at bat and stayed at the plate until they got a hit, with Mayor Rogero occasionally giving hands-on batting tips. Sometimes, all it takes is a little encouragement to light a spark of confidence!

A play at the plate - SAFE!
A close play at the plate: She's SAFE!

At the event, Mayor Rogero also announced registration for Knoxville Parks and Recreation’s youth leagues.
