Keeping Up with Poet Laureat...
Keeping Up with Poet Laureate Marilyn Kallet
After a busy summer,
Knoxville Poet Laureate Marilyn Kallet
launched into autumn with gusto.
In September, she helped the University of Tennessee mark its 225th anniversary by reading her original poem
225, and Beginning!
at the celebratory gala.
And she traveled to the nation’s capital to attend the ceremony inducting her friend and former University of Tennessee colleague
Joy Harjo
as the new U.S. Poet Laureate.

In the coming weeks, Kallet will read at the Wednesday, Oct. 23 meeting of the Knoxville Writers' Group at the Cedar Bluff Holiday Inn. And she'll perform at the
2nd Annual Interfaith Youth Poetry Slam
on Sunday, Oct. 27, 5-7 p.m. at Arnstein Jewish Community Center. The event's theme is "Slam The Hate" and will also include Amal "The Poet" Kassir.
Kallet has continued to work on her book about heroic service dogs, which includes Sherlock, Community K-9 of the San Bernardino Police Department. Who's a good boy?
To read poems Kallet has written during her tenure as Knoxville's second Poet Laureate, visit her
poetry page
