Week 110: Work Progressing in All 3 Buildings, Plus Walls Going Up at New Court Building
Work is progressing on all three former hospital buildings that are being given a new life as the City's Public Safety Complex in North Knoxville.

In what had once been the Professional Office Building at St. Mary's Hospital, the upper floors are being painted, electrical rooms in all floors are being wired, and rough-in work is continuing in the fourth floor mechanical room.

Drywall is being installed in the elevator lobbies, and handrails are being replaced in the stairwell.

The building, on the eastern end of the complex, will house Knoxville Police Department operations.

Meanwhile, at what had been the hospital's Central Wing Annex, steel joists and decking are being installed in the eastern processing garage, and interior walls are beginning to be sanded, primed and painted.

But the most noticeable work is happening at the newly constructed building that will serve as City Court. Steel supports have been installed, wood blocking was installed, and exterior wall framing is underway.

At the former Women's Pavilion, which will house Fire Department administrative operations and the back-up E-911 center, wall framing and wood blocking are underway on the second and third floors. Electrical rough-in work is happening on all three floors, and mechanical rough-in work is continuing in the upper floor equipment room.

The Public Safety Complex is on schedule to be completed by the end of this year. In addition to the City offices, the campus will be a mix of Lincoln Memorial University college classrooms and green space, housing or a mix of private redevelopment, and, eventually, an urgent care and behavioral health facility (a joint City and County initiative).
