KPD Investigating Two Serious Crashes, Including One Fatal Crash
The Knoxville Police Department is investigating two unrelated serious crashes that occurred last night, including one that proved to be fatal.

At around 6:10 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, officers responded to I-40 West near Cedar Bluff in regards to a multi-car crash with injuries.

Based on investigation conducted at the scene, it is believed that a Ford truck had broken down and pulled off the road to the left-hand shoulder. A Chevrolet truck then struck the stopped Ford truck. The driver of the Chevy was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the Ford was not injured in the crash.

That crash remains under investigation by KPD crash reconstruction personnel.

Unrelated to that crash, at around 12:50 a.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2023, officers responded to Broadway Street near Old Broadway Street on the report that an injured man was lying in the street. Officers arrived on scene and found the victim on the shoulder of the southbound side of Broadway. He was transported to an area hospital with possibly critical injuries.

Evidence at the scene suggested that the man was struck by a vehicle, which was no longer on scene, though there were no witnesses to any collision that preceded officer response. As of this morning, the victim was in serious but stable condition.

Anyone with information regarding that crash is urged to contact East Tennessee Valley Crime Stoppers at 865-215-7165 or online at www.easttnvalleycrimestoppers.org. Tipsters can remain anonymous and be eligible to receive a cash reward.
