KPD Investigating Deadly, Early-Morning Shooting on Wilson Avenue 
Update on Fatal Wilson Avenue Shooting (September 19, 2022, 11 a.m.) 

The victim from the fatal shooting on Wilson Avenue has been identified as Samuel Whitfield, 38 of Knoxville.  

The investigation revealed that a car of undetermined make and model drove past the house at 2717 Wilson Avenue and fired multiple shots at it. Whitfield was struck by the gunfire and transported from the scene to the UT Medical Center in a personal vehicle. Whitfield died shortly after arriving at the UT Medical Center. Multiple potential witnesses have been interviewed by Violent Crimes Unit investigators, but no suspects have been arrested or charged at this time.

The Knoxville Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred in the 2700 block of Wilson Avenue early Sunday morning. 

At just before 5 a.m. on Sunday, September 18, 2022, KPD officers were advised that a man suffering from at least one gunshot wound arrived at the UT Medical Center via a personal vehicle. The victim was pronounced dead following his arrival. A crime scene was located on Wilson Avenue.

The investigation is ongoing and remains in the preliminary stages at this time.
