Drowning at Fort Dickerson Quarry 
Update on Recovery Operation for Fort Dickerson Quarry Drowning Victim (August 3, 2020, 10:15 p.m.)  

At approximately 9:35 p.m. on Monday, August 3, members of the recovery team located and recovered the body of the drowning victim at Fort Dickerson Quarry. The victim has been identified as 29-year-old Porfirio Ruiz of Knoxville, Tennessee.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. on Sunday, August 2, Knox County E911 received multiple calls concerning a possible drowning at the Fort Dickerson Quarry. Knoxville Police Department, Knoxville Fire Department and Knox County Rescue Squad personnel all responded to the scene and began an active search for the victim. The victim, an adult male, was at the park with his family when he was observed falling off of a float into the water and never resurfaced. Rescue efforts continued until around 7:30 p.m., when it was changed from a rescue to a recovery operation, which is being led by the Knox County Rescue Squad and TWRA.
