Suspect Apprehended Following Attempting Kidnapping
On Thursday, July 23 at approximately 3:24 p.m., KPD officers received a call of an attempted kidnapping on Laurel Avenue near 20th Street, outside of Fort Sanders Hospital. Multiple callers advised that a white male subject was physically attempting to take an infant in a baby carrier from a female. Citizens who observed the attack intervened to stop the suspect, and Fort Sanders Hospital Security arrived and were able to keep a visual on the suspect as he fled toward Cumberland Avenue. KPD officers quickly located the suspect on Volunteer Boulevard and Lake Avenue with the assistance of the University of Tennessee Police Department. The suspect was taken into custody and transported back to the scene. The suspect was uncooperative with officers and damaged a KPD cruiser after being placed into custody.
