KPD investigation crash and shooting on MLK Jr. Avenue 
UPDATE (April 6, 2020, 12:15 p.m.) 

The victim from Saturday night’s fatal shooting and crash on Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue has been identified as 32-year-old Markedra Houston. Upon further investigation, the shooting is believed to be the result of a confrontation that occurred at a nearby residence. The circumstances of the incident remain under investigation by the Violent Crimes Unit and there is no further information at this time.

On Saturday, April 4 at approximately 10:14 p.m., Knoxville Police Department officers were dispatched to a wreck into a building at 2461 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue. Upon officer arrival, as KFD removed the 36-year-old female victim from the vehicle, it was discovered that she had gunshot wounds to her legs. The victim was transported to the UT Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.
 
A witness advised that the vehicle approached from south on Chestnut before crashing into the building, and that gunshots were heard from the area from which the vehicle approached prior to the crash.  
 
Violent Crimes Unit investigators responded to the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
