KAT Reimagined Launches: Better Service, More Frequency - and Fare Free During 2-Week Transition
On Aug. 26, 2024, Knoxville Area Transit launched
KAT Reimagined
, its biggest makeover in decades.
To make the transition to a new bus network easier, KAT is offering free bus service through Sept. 8.
"We’re thrilled to offer two weeks of free service to give everyone a chance to experience the benefits of our new network firsthand,” said Isaac Thorne, the City's Director of Transit.
“KAT Reimagined is a transformative step forward for our community. By providing more frequent and consistent service, we are not only enhancing accessibility and convenience but also making a significant impact on our city's sustainability goals."
Check out this video, as well as this
written summary
of what's new:
The KAT Reimagined bus network features 20 fixed routes, with more than 94,000 Knoxville residents within a quarter-mile of a bus stop.
Buses run on almost all the routes 7 days a week. Sunday service has been boosted by 150 percent.
Also, 12,000 more residents will have access to buses that run every 15 minutes - an 80 percent increase.
The new routes offer a 19 percent increase in access to jobs.
And the new Downtown Connector is using all-electric buses that quietly run every 12 minutes, 7 days a week.
Give the new routes a try. Ride for free through Sept. 8!
