Attempted Carjacking and Shooting on N. Central Street
On Friday, September 11, 2020 at around 6:45 p.m., officers responded to N. Central Street at Bernard Avenue in reference to a shooting with a victim. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the female victim, who stated that she was driving her vehicle and pulled into 1305 N. Central. The victim stated she pulled into the part of the parking lot that was behind the business. The victim indicated that while she was sitting in her parked car, she observed a black truck pull into the parking lot from N. Central Street. The truck exited the parking lot before eventually returning and driving towards her vehicle. The victim stated that a male suspect exited the passenger side of the vehicle, approached her vehicle and displayed a black handgun. The suspect, described as a black male in his early 20s with dreadlocks, pointed the pistol at her and attempted to open the car door. The victim stated that the suspect was able to open the door, at which time she was able to put the car in drive and drive away from the scene. The victim stated that once she started driving away the suspect shot her and at her an unknown number of times. After fleeing from the scene, the victim eventually pulled her car over at N. Central Street at Bernard Avenue, where she was met by officers. Once on scene, officers discovered that the victim had been shot and had severe lacerations to her face. She was transported to the UT Medical Center by AMR with injuries that are not expected to be life-threatening. The incident is currently under investigation by the KPD Violent Crimes Unit. Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to call the Crime Hotline at 865-215-7212.
