Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and Police Chief Eve Thomas named Knoxville Police Department Officer Floyd Fox the June Co-Officer of the Month.  Officer Fox has been with KPD since May 2002.

On June 28, 2018, Officer Fox began a medical neglect investigation concerning an elderly lady in her late 60s.   After knocking on the door of the residence, Officer Fox was eventually greeted by the elderly lady who promptly handed Officer Fox 4 dollars and urgently asked him to get her a Bacon and Egg Biscuit from a local fast food restaurant.  When asked why the lady was so insistent that he do so, the woman responded, “Because I haven’t eaten in over three days.” A quick survey of the kitchen revealed that she had cans of food in her cabinets; and when asked about the canned food items, the woman responded that her family member, who is addicted to drugs, had pawned everything he could of hers including her walker and her hand-held can opener which she had to use in spite of her severe arthritis.  

After hearing her story and assessing the situation, Officer Fox left the scene and promised to return soon.   Less than an hour later,  Officer Fox came back to the woman’s residence with a Bacon Egg Biscuit and a couple of bags of groceries -- including milk, eggs, bread, and an electric can opener.  More importantly, Officer Fox had paid for all of these items, without hesitation, from his own money.  
A supervisor overheard Officer Fox tell an advocate what had happened and when asked why he spent his own money he said, “It’s okay, it was the right thing to do.”  After hearing of what Officer Fox had done, a captain arranged for Officer Fox to be reimbursed.  

Chief Thomas said, “Officer Fox is truly a fine example of a police officer going beyond his normal duty, willing to give away his own money that he probably needed for his own family, but yet willing to sacrifice it for one of Knoxville’s most vulnerable citizens.”
