City Council Candidate Forum on Disability Set for Oct. 11, 2017

Posted: 09/27/2017
The Mayor’s Council on Disability Issues (CODI) will host a City Council Candidate Forum on Disability on Wednesday, October 11, 2017. Meet and greet starts at 5 p.m. and the forum starts at 5:30 p.m. in the Small Assembly Room in the City County Building located at 400 Main St.

CODI will provide an opportunity for residents to meet the candidates running for the five open City Council seats and ask them questions regarding their positions on disability issues in the City of Knoxville. CODI has invited the candidates to attend and provided them a list of questions regarding disability issues that they will address at the forum.

Each candidate will be asked about their personal or professional connections to the disability community and the issues unique to them. Then questions from the list will be randomly drawn for each candidate to answer. All candidates will answer up to three questions and have no more than two minutes to answer each question. There will be tables available on which candidates may display their campaign materials.

Election Day is Nov. 7, and early voting begins Oct. 19. For other dates and locations, visit the Knox County Election Commission at KnoxVotes.org.

CODI was established in June 1984 to provide direction and guidance to the Mayor and the City Council in matters concerning persons with disabilities, and to promote coordination, communication, and cooperation in working toward common goals concerning persons with disabilities.

Anyone needing a disability accommodation to attend the meeting should contact Stephanie Cook, at [email protected] or 865-215-2034 by Oct. 6. For an English interpreter, contact Title VI Coordinator Tatia Harris at 865-215-2831.
