Downtown Streets Closed for Upcoming Events

Posted: 04/24/2019
Annual festivities in downtown Knoxville will temporarily close some on-street parking and streets starting this weekend. Visitors and residents should consider these closures when planning their routes.

The 58th Annual Dogwood Arts Festival will be held in Market Square, Market Street and in Krutch Park and Krutch Park Extension on Friday, April 25, Saturday, April 26 and Sunday, April 27. Over the festival’s three days, organizers anticipate as many as 50,000 people in attendance to enjoy the fine art market, live music, artist demonstrations, food vendors and hands-on activities for kids and adults.

Temporary no-parking zones will go into effect on portions of Clinch, Market and Union beginning at 5 a.m. Thursday April 25. The following street sections will be closed to traffic from 7 a.m. Thursday, April 25, through 8 p.m. Sunday, April 28:

• Union and Clinch avenues between Walnut and Gay streets
• Market Street between Church and Union avenues

The Long Table, a fundraiser dinner for Community Shares of Tennessee, will be held Sunday April 28, in the center of S. Central Street. Central will be closed to traffic during the event, from 2-10 p.m., between Willow and Jackson avenues. Meters in that section of Central street will be bagged, and parking will be prohibited starting at noon.

Next weekend, Market Square Farmers’ Market’s first Saturday market of its 16th season will be held 9 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday, May 4. The following road closures will apply between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. every Saturday through Nov. 23.

• Union Avenue between Walnut and Gay streets
• Market Street between Clinch and Union avenues

Parking is free in all City-owned garages after 6 p.m. weeknights and all day weekends. And the Knoxville Area Transit Station is only a few blocks from Market Square.
