Call 311 to Report Flood Damage

Posted: 02/24/2019
  CALL THE 311 CENTER
  You can call 3-1-1 or 865-215-4311 to report significant flood damage 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
  OR
  FILL OUT DAMAGE ASSESSMENT FORM
The Damage Assessment Form is to help collect information for the initial damage assessment of the Knoxville-Knox County area. This info will be forwarded to TEMA to help seek federal assistance for our community.

  POTHOLES
Call 3-1-1 to report a pothole or use this Report a Pothole Form.

This week, public employees with the City of Knoxville and Knox County, as well as private fire and ambulance personnel, will be documenting damage to houses and businesses caused by this weekend’s flooding.

Property owners are encouraged to fill out the Damage Assessment Form or call 3-1-1 (or 865-215-4311) to report significant damage to their buildings.

Uniformed first responders or government employees will be making visits to many but not all of the damaged properties. The damage assessment will be forwarded to the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), which will collect data from multiple communities to see if the damage estimate reaches a threshold to qualify for application for possible federal assistance.

Knoxville police officers and firefighters, City and Knox County stormwater engineers, and Rural/Metro Fire Department and AMR Emergency Medical Services personnel are among the teams that will be conducting assessments throughout Knoxville and Knox County.

If homeowners or business owners see a uniformed first responder or a stormwater engineer in street clothes in their neighborhood, they should not be startled. If anyone claiming to be helping with the damage assessment comes onto private property, the property owner should ask to see their identification. Further, the property owner may call 3-1-1 and verify that the person providing identification is indeed a legitimate damage assessment team member. The property owner should not open their door to anyone that they deem suspicious.

Remember, the process of assessing structural property damage begins with filling out the Damage Assessment Form or calling the Knoxville 311 Center for Service Innovation. Hours are 7 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Significant rain fell across Knoxville for 10 consecutive days, with 3.5 to 5 inches of rain falling from Friday night through Saturday. Flash flooding damaged homes and businesses and closed more than 100 roads, with about 40 roads remaining closed as of earlier today.
