The Energy & Sustainability Task Force was created in 2007 to see how the City could use energy more efficiently and become more sustainable. This goal reflects the global effort to reduce excess energy consumption and standardize environmentally sustainable best practices in addition to leading the community and region towards an environmentally, socially, and economically healthy future.

The members of the Energy & Sustainability Task Force guided the City's sustainability initiatives between 2007 and 2010. The Task Force's work culminated in the development of the City of Knoxville's Energy & Sustainability Work Plan, which is implemented and updated by the Office of Sustainability.
