The City of Knoxville primarily provides garbage and recycling services to residential entities. However, if your business or organization is within the City limits and the following criteria suits your needs, you may be eligible for our Small Commercial Garbage and Recycling Program.

For $100 per quarter we can provide the following:
  • One 95 gallon City-issued trash cart
  • Once a week collection of only the contents of the one City cart
    • No overflow trash will be collected
  • One 95 gallon City-issued recycling cart (optional)
    • Recycling is collected every other week

Guidelines:

  • Carts must be brought to within 3 feet of the curb by 7 a.m. on day of collection
    • Waste Connections is required to remain on City-maintained roads and cannot pull into any parking lots, etc.
  • The cart wheels and back of cart need to be toward your business building (the front facing the street) and cart lid must be closed with no additional trash placed on top
  • Once trash is collected, the carts must be brought back to behind the front of the building line no later than 9 p.m. the same day of collection.
  • Carts should be 3 feet from any vehicle, utility pole, or other obstacle
  • Carts should not block traffic, mail service, sidewalks, or cause a safety issue
  • Garbage and recycling carts should be at least 3 feet apart
    • This is due to the layout of the truck and the use of the mechanical arm to be able to safely pickup the cart and dump fully

To sign up for these services please contact Makenzie at 865-215-2817 or at mread@knoxvilletn.gov.

While a portion of residential taxes cover waste services, commercial, church, and non-profit organization taxes do not. Therefore these organizations would need to pay for waste services, whether from the City or a private hauler.

The City of Knoxville does not provide any commercial dumpster services.

If your business or organization is located in downtown Knoxville (Central Business Improvement District CBID), please visit here for more information regarding waste disposal.
