Firefighters Honored for Helping Fight East Tennessee Fires

KFD Honorees LaShier and Eldridge
Chief Stan Sharp, Senior Firefighter Robert La Shier, Senior Firefighter Shawn Eldridge and Mayor Madeline Rogero

Congratulations to Senior Firefighters Robert La Shier and Shawn Eldridge, honored today as the Knoxville Fire Department’s Firefighters of the 4th Quarter.

Last fall was a terrible fire season. Drought conditions and sometimes acts of arson created historically destructive fires across East Tennessee – and Hamilton County was not spared.

La Shier, who works out of the Station 3 fire hall on Baxter Avenue, and Eldridge, who works out of the Station 19 fire hall on Chapman Highway, joined firefighter volunteers from across the country in battling the 2,500-acre fires in Hamilton County.

The work was exhausting under harsh conditions; Eldridge and La Shier helped lay and maintain a 1,500-foot-long hose in rough terrain.

Rob and Shawn, who were classmates and came up together through the Fire Academy, just celebrated their 10-year anniversaries with KFD. We salute them and thank them for their professionalism, commitment and volunteer spirit!
