For the next week and a half, continuing façade demolition and the $10 million restoration of the former KUB Building will close the northbound lanes on a block of South Gay Street between Church and Clinch avenues.
 
Southbound motorists will be able to travel south on Gay Street past the construction site, using a single lane during daytime hours. Daytime northbound motorists will be detoured onto Church Avenue to State Street to Clinch Avenue to reconnect to northbound Gay Street.
 
The lanes will be closed starting at 7 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, and the work is scheduled to be completed at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 19. The lanes will only be closed when reconstruction work is being done. Each afternoon, the lanes will reopen at about 5 p.m.
 
The façade removal and renovation of the former KUB Building is being done by Johnson & Galyon Inc., which is the contractor for the restoration project. The building, which has stood vacant for more than 16 years, will be occupied by The Tombras Group in late 2017 or early 2018. The new building will boast more than 50,000 square feet of office space, housing about 250 employees eventually. A coffee shop will anchor 5,000 square feet of street-level retail space.
