Lanes Closed on 400 Block S. Gay St. Oct. 12

Posted: 10/10/2016
The mixed-use redevelopment of the unique and historic Kress Building, 417 S. Gay St., is underway, and a Wednesday morning concrete pour will temporarily close three of the four lanes in that block of South Gay Street.

From 8-11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 12, a concrete pump truck will be parked and operating in front of the Kress Building. There will be a temporary no-parking zone in that block, and the only lane that will be open is the parking lane on the east side of the street. Motorists should anticipate delays as flag teams direct northbound and southbound motorists, who will take alternating turns using the open lane.

Kress Partnership LLC is redeveloping the 91-year-old building with plans for a restaurant, offices and residential units.

Meanwhile, three other upcoming street closures are planned – one for asphalt patching repairs, another for installation of downtown telecommunications infrastructure, and a third for a Happy Holler street festival:

• A northbound lane of South Gay Street between Hill Avenue and Main Street will be closed this week for asphalt patching repairs in that block.

• Market Street will be closed near its downtown intersection with Cumberland Avenue, starting Tuesday, Oct. 11, as a contractor for WOW! installs conduit. The work is expected to two to three days.

• A three-block section of Central Street will be closed between Baxter and Scott avenues from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 22, for the Happy Hollerpalooza street festival.
