KAT Continues to Get UT Football Fans to Home Games

Posted: 09/22/2016
After encouraging fans to use KAT’s regular fixed route service to attend UT Football’s Thursday home opener, the transit system continues to see an increase in ridership on game days.

The 5 routes fans are encouraged to use have doubled in ridership on game day. Last Saturday’s ridership for Route 11 – Kingston Pike saw a 44% increase compared to previous Saturdays, and Route 17 – Sutherland increased 81%; both routes run near UT.

“We are so pleased people have discovered how easy it is to use regular KAT service to reach the games,” Dawn Distler, The City of Knoxville’s Director of Transit says. “The Vol Game Ride Guides we have created make it easy for new riders. Each route guide contains everything you need to know about getting to and from the game: routes, stops, fares, and frequency.”

Vol Game Ride Guides are available at www.katbus.com or www.knoxvilletn.gov/gameday.

Fans that have not yet used KAT to get to the game are encouraged to lose the stress of parking and make your way to the action using the five main bus routes from different areas of town.

The public is reminded that traffic around the stadium may cause delays in service and are encouraged to plan accordingly.

Bus trips are $1.50 each way or $4 for an unlimited day pass – reduced fares are available for persons 65 and older, persons with disabilities and Medicare Cardholders; proper ID required. Transfer passes can be purchased on the bus for $0.50.

Passengers are reminded to have exact change for the fare box.

Drivers can provide change cards for bus-use only, but DO NOT have access to currency. Credit cards are NOT accepted on buses. Football shuttles will continue to run as scheduled. ($6 round trip or $16 round trip from Farragut). Shuttle wristbands may also be used on fixed route buses.

Passengers boarding after the game in the Free Fare Zone, any bus stop along Cumberland Ave. in the construction area, will not be charged a fare.

The drop-off location will be along Cumberland Ave. at Philip Fulmer Way on the north end of Neyland Stadium. Bus service will continue to run throughout the duration of the game. Fans needing to depart the game early may do so.

Please remember that NO FOOD OR DRINKS are allowed on buses.
