Public Meeting Set Aug. 11 on Gay Street Project

Posted: 07/30/2015

A complete rebuild of the infrastructure in the 700 block of South Gay Street (between Church and Cumberland avenues) will begin this fall. Property owners and other downtown stakeholders are invited to an Aug. 11 public meeting to ask questions and hear details about the project and the construction schedule.

The meeting will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at the East Tennessee History Center, 601 S. Gay St.

The project will include utility upgrades, new pervious paver sidewalks, Streetscape additions and new intersection medallions. New street trees will benefit from greater soil volume provided by underground structural cells that also support the sidewalk. Intersection bulb-outs will be built to improve pedestrian safety and better define on-street parking.

The 700 block work is scheduled to be completed before next April’s Rossini Festival.

Anyone needing a disability accommodation to attend the Aug. 11 public meeting should contact the City’s ADA Coordinator, Stephanie Cook, at [email protected] or 865-215-2034. For an English interpreter, contact Joshalyn Hundley, Title VI Coordinator, at 865-215-3867 or at [email protected].
