Mayor Rogero has released the following statement regarding a City of Knoxville employee who was injured today.
"This afternoon, a City of Knoxville employee showed a magnificent act of bravery when he rushed to save a 6-year-old girl as she crossed Hall of Fame Drive on her way to the Cal Johnson Recreation Center. Knoxville Police report that Elijah Clark, a Parks and Recreation employee, saw a car approaching the pedestrian crossing while the young girl was in the middle of the street. Elijah ran toward the girl, picked her up and tossed her to the bank, out of danger and unharmed. Elijah was hit by the car in the process. As mayor, I am always heartened by the dedication and commitment our employees show, but Elijah's courage is exemplary. I have spoken with Elijah's sister, who is with him at the hospital, and asked her to convey to him my thanks and wishes for a quick recovery. I look forward to personally thanking him for his quick-thinking and unselfish actions."
