City of Knoxville Government Offices Closed

Posted: 01/25/2013
Due to continued deteriorating weather conditions, City of Knoxville government offices will not be open today, Friday, Jan. 25th.

Knoxville Fire, Police, Public Service, and 311 employees are working to ensure public safety; other City employees should not report to work.

Household garbage will be collected but on a two-hour delay. The City's solid waste management facility is temporarily closed for dangerous conditions and freezing scales.

To report hazardous conditions on City streets, the public is asked to call 311.

The Knoxville Police Department (KPD) remains on a normal operating schedule. A KPD supervisor is monitoring calls for service at the E-911 Center. Four Knoxville Fire Department Tactical Response Teams are working inside the Knoxville City limits.

Public Service crews continue to salt trouble spots on the roads and bridges and responding to emergency requests.

The Public Service Department has up to 180 employees and 21 pieces of equipment available to clear streets and support emergency services. Crews use salt, calcium chloride and truck-mounted snow plows to clear streets during a weather event. Sand and other aggregates are also used for some specific applications like the Gay Street Bridge and downtown sidewalks.
