American Idol XIII Rolls into Knoxville for Audition Showdown

The popular FOX TV series "American Idol" will hold auditions on Friday, Aug. 23rd, in Knoxville's Krutch Park, where would-be contestants can show up for a shot to appear on the competition show.

Knoxville is the fourth stop on a five-city "American Idol Audition Bus Tour" that is crossing the nation looking for its next star-singer. The last stop will be in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Monday, Aug. 26th.

Due to the auditions at Krutch Park, the southbound lane of Gay Street closest to Krutch Park Extension will be closed between Union Avenue and Clinch Avenue from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. There will be Temporary No Parking on the Southbound side of Gay Street between Union Avenue and Clinch Avenue beginning at 5 a.m.; and Temporary No Parking on Market Street between Union Avenue and Clinch Avenue beginning at 5 a.m.

Parking for "American Idol" auditions will be at the Coliseum for $5. KAT Trolley offers a free ride from the Coliseum to Krutch Park. Parking is available at the Coliseum for $5; a KAT trolley to Krutch Park is free.

Hopeful singers have to be 15 to 28 years old to register for the audition. Registration will take place on Friday at Krutch Park and is scheduled to start no later than 8 a.m. Those interested in auditioning are asked not to arrive at the audition location overnight.

Those under 18 years old must be accompanied by a parent or a legal guardian. If a parent or legal guardian is not available, a guardian at least 21 years old must be appointed by a parent, and the Guardian and Medical Authorization for Minors form must be completed, signed and notarized.

Show rules state that you must bring two forms of ID to show proof of age. One must include a photograph (license, passport or school ID card). Potential contestants must also complete a Personal Release form.
