Alcoa Hwy. Rock Slide Repair Contract Awarded

Posted: 01/24/2013
The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is continuing to monitor a rockslide that occurred near Woodson Road on the night of January 15th. The slide has shut down one northbound lane on Alcoa Highway (U.S. 129/State Route 115) in Knoxville. Southbound traffic is not affected.

On Tuesday, January 22, the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) awarded a rockslide repair contract. For the rock slope stabilization project on Alcoa Highway, TDOT received bids from five different contractors, with Kay & Kay Contracting, LLC submitting the lowest bid of $308,040. The contractor is expected to begin work later this week. One Northbound lane will remain closed during the repair project, which is taking place near Woodson Road. Southbound traffic is not affected.

Traffic backups occur in this area during peak travel times such as morning rush hour.

Drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes such as:

1) Alcoa Highway to Pellissippi Parkway to Interstate 40.

2) Alcoa Highway to John Sevier Highway to Chapman Highway to James White Parkway into Downtown Knoxville or Interstate 40.
