Victor Ashe Park featured in Get Out and Play with Dr. Bob

Posted: 08/30/2012
Victor Ashe Park featured in "Get Out and Play with Dr. Bob" video series August 30, 2012 - Dr. Bob Overholt will feature Victor Ashe Park as the third in his monthly "Get Out and Play with Dr. Bob" video series, a virtual tour and health guide to Knoxville parks. It airs today on Channel 10, WBIR.

"Get Out and Play with Dr. Bob" is a joint effort to raise awareness about neighborhood parks and to address Tennessee's rising childhood obesity epidemic. The series is presented by the Allergy, Asthma & Sinus Center, Knoxville Parks and Recreation, the Legacy Parks Foundation, and WBIR.

Victor Ashe Park offers ample space for all to enjoy within its scenic 125 acres. The park's epicenter boasts a top-notch, four-field soccer complex that hosted the AYSO National Championships this year.

The park has a variety of amenities including a two-acre lake stocked with fish for an annual Father's Day event, miles of paved greenways and mulch trails for cross-country, a large playground, new sand volleyball courts, horseshoe pits, a dog park, and plenty of opportunities to become active.

The park is home to an 18-hole disc golf course, which was recognized as the "Best Disc Golf Course in the South" in Disc Golf Magazine. Additionally, Dog Fancy Magazine named the dog park as one of the top in its class in 2008.

Northwest Greenway stretches two miles connecting Victor Ashe Park to the softball and football fields at Badgett Fields, and connecting further to the tennis and roller hockey courts in Northwest Middle School Park.

PME Communications is producing the short "Get Out and Play" videos with Dr. Bob advising Knoxvillians on ways to stay active and healthy in our parks. The monthly videos are featured on the OutdoorKnoxville.com web site in addition to airing each month on WBIR.

"Dr. Bob," as he is known to both patients and viewers, is host of the long-running Dr. Bob Show, which airs regionally on 10News2 and the East Tennessee PBS affiliate. He has been a member of the WBIR-TV family for more than 20 years, appearing twice each week on local news programs.
