Solar Array Celebration at TVUUC

Posted: 02/29/2012
Mayor Madeline Rogero participated in a solar array celebration today at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universality Church (TVUUC). The church received a Green Rebate Incentive grant for the project from the City of Knoxville.

After waiting for more than a year and using an innovative model to finance the project, TVUUC, in conjunction with FLS Energy and Green Earth Solar, has a 28.7 kW solar array installed on its roof at 2931 Kingston Pike.

The array, consisting of 117 solar panels and covering more than 3,100 sq. feet of roof space, provides enough electricity to power three average Tennessee homees. The system is owned by FLS Energy, which, through third-party investors, monetizes a 30% federal tax credit for the system.

TVUUC's total investment is 5% of the total system cost, after factoring in:

Solar Installation Grant from the Tennessee Solar Institute a grant from TVA for participation in its Generation Partners program a solar grant from the Knoxville-Knox County CAC, tied to energy conservation practices implemented by TVUUC

The balance of the system cost was paid by FLS Energy.
