Public Meeting on Cumberland Project Right of Way

Posted: 09/07/2012
The City of Knoxville and consultants for the Cumberland Avenue Streetscape Project will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25th, at the University Visitors' Center (former Faculty Club) at 2704 Kingston Pike.

The purpose is to discuss the Right-of-way Plans and the City of Knoxville's property acquisition process as well as address any questions regarding the project. Property owners and others with interest in the project are encouraged to attend the public meeting, which was originally scheduled for Sept. 11th.

The City is acquiring property interest necessary to improve Cumberland Avenue. In order to complete this project, the City proposes to acquire some interest in the property for Temporary Construction Easement and/or Utility Easement. Currently in the right-of-way phase, this project aims to:

Narrow Cumberland Avenue from four lanes to three lanes with a ribbon median (one eastbound lane, one westbound lane and a left turn lane at side street intersections) Increase the sidewalk area on each side of Cumberland Avenue; and Modify vehicular access to businesses in this location.

The project begins on the west at Third Creek and continues eastward to east of Seventeenth Street. There will be brief presentation and an opportunity for questions and comments.
