Posted: 03/02/2012
The City of Knoxville is presenting the 7th Annual Premiere Teen Step Show at the Civic Auditorium, at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, March 10.

Local teams will compete as well as top teams from Atlanta, St. Louis, South Carolina, Memphis and Kentucky. Awards and prizes will be presented to the top three teams with the most creative routine. Also, awards will be presented to the top three academic teams and individuals.

The purpose of this event is to give high school students an opportunity to obtain college connections. College fraternities and sororities will judge the step show and meet with the students. Participating fraternities include: Kappa Alpha Psi, Omega Psi Phi, Alpha Phi Alpha, and Phi Beta Sigma. Participating sororities include: Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Sigma Gamma Rho, and Zeta Phi Beta.

Students competing in the step show will also be given the opportunity to tour the University of Tennessee campus.

Radio personalities Tyrone Beach and Joey Tack, of HOT 104.5, will be on the scene to kick off the show with an audience participation contest. Premiere Building Maintenance Corporation is the title sponsor for the event and is supporting it along with the City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation Department.

"We are proud of this event and the attention that it has received in the last few years," said Joe Walsh, City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation Director, noting the estimated 2,000 fans that attended the event last year.

Walsh added: "This event accomplishes many goals that we as the City Recreation Department work to achieve. The 'step show' competition encourages teamwork, fun, exercise and community involvement."

Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 on the day of the show. To order tickets in advance, call the Civic Auditorium at 656-4444 or visit www.knoxvilletickets.com.
