Mayor Welcomes New Members to CAC AmeriCorps

Mayor Rogero welcomed new members to the CAC AmeriCorps on Monday.

The members are from all over the country and many are new to the Knoxville area. Each year CAC AmeriCorps has 40 people that serve in Knoxville and Knox County and the surrounding area. Their commitment is 11 months and they receive a modest living allowance and education award for their service term. The new members will go thru orientation this week in the L.T. Ross Building at 2247 Western Ave. John Harris is the AmeriCorps Director at the Knox County CAC.

There will be three AmeriCorps members helping in City of Knoxville Departments - Community Development, Parks and Recreation and Public Service/Recycling.

Other organizations that will have members for the year include: UTK Recycling, and UTK Water Resources Reasearch Center.

CAC AmeriCorps
CAC AmeriCorps is an AmeriCorps program with 40 members serving on teams that address environmental issues such as solid waste management, air and water quality, sustainable agriculture and biofuels.For more information about CAC AmeriCorps please send email to [email protected].

AmeriCorps
AmeriCorps is a national service program, "the Peace Corps at Home," that utilizes a local corps of working volunteers who commit to a year of service building communities and solving problems. U.S. citizens who are over 17 yrs. old and have a high school diploma are eligible to participate. Members earn a monthly living allowance, health insurance, and receive an educational award for tuition and/or student loan repayments after completion of program.
