Do you have a $5 million idea? The City of Knoxville is seeking public input as City officials prepare to apply for a Mayors Challenge grant from Bloomberg Philanthropies, a nonprofit organization founded by New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The Mayors Challenge program is soliciting proposals for innovative civic solutions from cities around the country. One city will be awarded $5 million, and another four will receive $1 million each. In writing about the program, Mayor Bloomberg said, "From sustainability and public health, to education and economic development, cities are pioneering new policies and programs that are moving the country forward. In an era of fiscal constraints and declining federal aid, however, the lack of financing for new ideas is often an impediment to action."

If you have an innovative idea for Knoxville, there is a Mayors Challenge survey linked on the front of the City website (http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/RVSG25S). Proposals will be collected between now and Aug. 10th. The application deadline is Sept. 14th.

"This is an opportunity for bold ideas that create innovative approaches to improve life in Knoxville," Mayor Madeline Rogero said. "We have very creative people in Knoxville, and we would love to hear your ideas."
