Commitment To Program Earns Explorer Special Award

Posted: 05/13/2010
Knoxville Mayor Bill Haslam and Police Chief Sterling Owen named Victoria LaGrange the 2009 Explorer of the Year for the Knoxville Police Department. Explorer LaGrange has been serving in the program since July 2008.

Chief Owen said in her short time with the department, Explorer LaGrange has progressed to the position of Assistant Squad Leader. She also serves as the contact person for prospective Explorer program members. In 2009, Explorer LaGrange donated 253 hours to the department and the community. These hours are a result of her working 83% of the 94 activities that the post participated in during 2009. That includes working every UT home football game in addition to working her share of other assignments during this same time period.

Chief Owen said, "Explorer LaGrange has always set a good example for other Explorers to follow. She has done a remarkable job of taking on the challenges and responsibilities to excel as a leader in the Explorer program." Mayor Haslam said, "Explorer LaGrange has exhibited her commitment to the community through her unselfish dedication, dependability, and outstanding performance."
