Career Transition Assistance Fair Announced

Posted: 02/16/2009
The City of Knoxville, Knox County, Innovation Valley Inc., and the Knoxville Chamber will present a free Career Transition Assistance Fair at the Jacob Building at Chilhowee Park from noon to 7 p.m. on March 10th.

The purpose of this event is to provide support and information to individuals living in East Tennessee who are unemployed or underemployed. The Fair will consist of three different components.

Resource Showcase

The Resource Showcase will include a wide array of companies, organizations and government agencies available to provide support and information during a time of transition. This will include information about issues such as searching for a new job, job training, apprenticeships, temporary employment, starting your own business, health insurance options, 401k rollover options, unemployment services, etc.

Transition Seminars

The Transition Seminars will focus on topics relevant to job seekers and the recently unemployed, including how to write a resume, how to use the internet to search for jobs and effective interviewing skills, among other topics.

Resume Assistance Center

Finally, the Resume Assistance Center will provide attendees with the opportunity to have human resources or public relations professionals proofread and review their resumes and recommend ways to improve their marketability through an effective resume. Attendees looking to take advantage of this opportunity must bring a type-written resume with them. The volunteers will not create a resume for attendees, only make suggestions on ways to improve the one they have.
