Input sought to So. Waterfront plan

Posted: 10/20/2005
The City of Knoxville released today a schedule for more than a dozen public meetings beginning October 26 through June 15, 2006 to create a South Waterfront Vision and Action Plan.

The meetings include three workshops to elicit comments and feedback from the public, as well as meetings of the South Waterfront Oversight Committee - comprised of representatives of neighborhoods, businesses and public agencies - and City Council workshops.

"I encourage everyone interested in developing this framework for future development and investment in the South Waterfront to participate in this process," said Mayor Bill Haslam. "The South Waterfront holds the potential to be a great community asset, and it's important that the community be involved in determining how to best develop that potential.

"The City's consultants on the project, Hargreaves Associates, will lead the workshops, which will focus on setting goals for the project, exploring alternatives, generating options and eventually creating the vision plan and actions necessary to accomplish the plan.Public workshops will be held on Thursday, Nov. 17; Thursday, Dec. 15; and Thursday, Jan. 26, 2006.

All meetings are at 6 p.m. at the Kerbela Shriners Temple, 315 Mimosa Ave. (behind Baptist Hospital).A schedule of Oversight Meetings and City Council workshops is available at www.knoxvilletn.gov/southwaterfront or by dialing 311, the City of Knoxville's customer service center.
