Wet Weather Delays River's Edge Construction

Posted: 12/01/2015
A contractor, Empire Construction, has been given an 18-day extension to reopen a section of Island Home Avenue. Heavy rains have delayed work associated with the building of the River’s Edge 134-unit apartment complex, a $14 million private investment on the South Waterfront.

Empire Construction is realigning and grading the road, relocating underground gas, water and sewer lines, and constructing a retaining wall.

As part of the project, the contractor also is constructing an 800-foot-long public riverwalk and a new public road, Splendid View Circle.

The City of Knoxville has extended the permit for the closure of Island Home Avenue between 1650 Island Home Avenue and Maplewood Drive through Friday, Dec. 18. Once the construction work is completed, two lanes of Island Home Avenue will reopen.
