City Services Schedule for Thanksgiving 2017

Posted: 11/20/2017

City of Knoxville offices will be closed for Thanksgiving weekend on Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24.

Waste Connections, the City’s contractor for household garbage and recycling collection, will not be collecting residential garbage or recyclables outside of downtown on Thanksgiving Day. Thanksgiving is one of only two holidays throughout the year – the other being Christmas Day – when City garbage is not picked up curbside.

If your regular trash and/or recycling pick-up day is Thursday, a Waste Connections crew will collect it Friday. Friday pick-up households are encouraged to put their carts out on Friday as usual, in case crews complete Thursday routes early. But most or all Friday pick-ups will be serviced on Saturday.

City residents are advised to have all garbage and recycling containers out for collection by 7 a.m. on the day of normal collection, regardless of anticipated holiday schedule changes.

Downtown garbage and recycling will be picked up following regular schedules through the week of Thanksgiving.

While City recycling centers will be open, Goodwill attendants will not be available for assistance or to accept donations on Thursday, Nov. 23. Also, the City’s Solid Waste Management Facility, 1033 Elm St., will be closed Thursday, Nov. 23, through the weekend, reopening Monday morning, Nov. 27.

Regular operating hours and collection schedules for all City waste services will resume on Monday, Nov. 27.

Also, Knoxville Area Transit will not run its services on Thursday, Nov. 23. On Friday, Nov. 24, all services will operate as though running on a Saturday schedule. Regular KAT operations will resume on Saturday, Nov. 25.
