“Light the Night,” a Kickoff of the City’s LED Streetlight Retrofit

Posted: 11/14/2017
Mayor Madeline Rogero, Former Mayor and 6th District City Council representative Daniel Brown, Office of Sustainability Director Erin Gill, Sustainability Project Manager Brian Blackmon, Siemens Contract Manager Clint Schuckel, local subcontractors, City officials, area residents and business owners will "Light the Night" on Thursday, Nov. 16 at 5 p.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue and Olive Street.

On Wednesday afternoon, workers will install the new LED bulb into an existing light fixture in preparation for Thursday’s lighting ceremony.

As darkness falls on Thursday evening, Mayor Rogero will light up a corner of the City in a demonstration of the new LED streetlights to be installed during the design phase of the City’s retrofitting project. The Mayor will also announce additional pilot locations where light fixtures will be tested before they are replaced permanently.

Information about the project is available at www.knoxvilletn.gov/LED.

Anyone needing a disability accommodation to be able to attend should contact Stephanie Cook at [email protected] or 865-215-2034. For an English interpreter, contact Title VI Coordinator Tatia M. Harris at 215-2831.
