KUB Utility Work Closes Roads Through Jan. 24, 2018

Due to utility work, KUB will have road closures on Hollywood Rd., Kingston Pike, Walnut St. and Piney Grove Church Rd.

(West Knoxville) Hollywood Road IMMEDIATE Lane Closure [January 19] – KUB contract crews have implemented a lane closure of a short section of Hollywood Road between Kelly Place and Papermill Drive effective immediately, Friday, January 19, until 10 p.m., as repairs are made to the wastewater collection system in the area. The southbound lane is closed while the northbound lane remains open to alternate traffic through the work zone. Appropriate signage and flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control. Follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary. 

(West Knoxville) Kingston Pike Lane Closure [January 21] – KUB crews will close a short section of the curbside, westbound lane of Kingston Pike between Cemetery Road and Homberg Drive from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Sunday, January 21, as work is performed on the water distribution system in the area. One westbound lane, the center turn lane, and both eastbound lanes will remain open during this time. Access to local businesses will be maintained, and flaggers and signs will be on site to assist with traffic control. 

(West Knoxville) Road Closure – Piney Grove Church Road [Extended, January 22-24] – KUB contract crews will implement a road closure of a short section of Piney Grove Church Road between Ferd Hickey Road and N. Forest Road daily, from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., starting Monday, January 22, through Wednesday, January 24, as work is performed on the wastewater collection system in the area. Alternate routes include Glade Hill Drive, Ferd Hickey Road, Granda Drive, W. Forest Boulevard, and Middlebrook Pike. Appropriate signage and flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control. No work will occur on weekends, and all roadways will reopen outside of work hours. Follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary. Previous work delayed due to weather. 

(Downtown Knoxville) Walnut Street Road Closure [Overnight, January 22-23] – KUB crews will close a short section of Walnut Street between W. Summit Hill Drive and Wall Avenue overnight, from 8 p.m., Monday, January 22, through 6 a.m., Tuesday, January 23, as work is performed on the electric distribution system in the area. Alternate routes include Locust Street, S. Gay Street, W. Summit Hill Drive, and Union Avenue. During this work, the sidewalk on the west side of Walnut Street will be closed to pedestrians. Access to local businesses will be maintained, and flaggers and signs will be on site to assist with traffic control. Wednesday night, January 24-25, will be used as a rain date if necessary.   

Some listed closures may extend beyond the scheduled times depending on the conditions encountered during excavation and construction. Appropriate traffic control measures will be in place at each location to assist motorists traveling in these areas. Due to the ongoing presence of workers and equipment, motorists are advised to use caution and expect temporary delays in these areas.
