KUB Lane Closures on State St. and Market St.

Posted: 02/27/2018
KUB will have lane closures on State Street and Market Street.

(Downtown Knoxville) State Street Intermittent Lane/Road Closures [Overnight, February 27-28] – KUB crews will implement intermittent lane closures as needed on State Street between W. Hill Avenue and Union Avenue starting at 9 p.m., Tuesday, February 27, through 5 a.m., Wednesday, February 28, to allow safe access to manholes. There will also be a full closure on the section of State Street between Cumberland Avenue and W. Church Avenue lasting approximately 1 hour when KUB crews are present. During all other times one lane of northbound traffic will remain open. Access to local businesses will be maintained, and flaggers and signs will be on site to assist with traffic control. This traffic control plan will need to be implemented several times in the coming weeks to complete work, and additional advisories will be issued.

(Downtown Knoxville) Market Street Road Closure [February 28 – March 30] – KUB crews will implement a closure of Market Street between Union Avenue and Clinch Avenue continuously from 7 a.m., Wednesday, February 28, through 9 p.m., Friday, March 30, as work is performed on the wastewater collection system in the area. Alternate routes include Clinch Avenue, S. Gay Street, Union Avenue, and Walnut Street. The sidewalk immediately in front of Home Federal Bank will be closed, but pedestrian access to other businesses nearby will be available. Work will be performed during daylight hours so crews can work longer each day to shorten the duration of the project, with the closure remaining in place after hours and on weekends for public safety. This section of roadway and the sidewalk will be re-opened for major downtown events, including Mardi Growl and the Knoxville Marathon. Appropriate signage will be on site to assist with traffic control. Follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary.

Some listed closures may extend beyond the scheduled times depending on the conditions encountered during excavation and construction. Appropriate traffic control measures will be in place at each location to assist motorists traveling in these areas. Due to the ongoing presence of workers and equipment, motorists are advised to use caution and expect temporary delays in these areas.
