Farmers' Market, Suffrage Parade to Close Downtown Streets June 9, 2018

Posted: 06/07/2018
Downtown Knoxville on Saturday will be diverse and festive, with special events ranging from the 20th anniversary induction ceremony at the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame to Big Orange Brawl, a fitness festival and CrossFit competition to be held at World’s Fair Park Festival Lawn.

There’s the Forget You Not celebration at the World’s Fair Park Amphitheatre, which honors survivors and caregivers and remembers lost loved ones.

But the two events that will have the biggest effect on downtown drivers and transit passengers will be the weekly Market Square Farmers’ Market and the Suffrage Coalition’s historical re-enactment Suffrage Parade. The parade will briefly close Main and Gay streets.

JUNE 9TH STREET CLOSURES:

Market Square Farmers’ Market – 9 a.m.-2 p.m.

The 15th season of the downtown farmers’ market offers locally grown produce, meat, eggs and plants, as well as locally made artisan foods and crafts. For details, visit www.nourishknoxville.org/market-square-farmers-market/.

Suffrage Parade and sculpture unveiling – 4-6 p.m.

The Suffrage Coalition’s parade stages on Main Street (beginning at 3 p.m.) in front of the City County Building and steps off at 4 p.m., turning left (north) onto Gay Street, then turning left onto Church Street and right onto Market Street.

The parade ends at Market Square, and a program at the pavilion (including Mayor Madeline Rogero) starts at 4:30 p.m. At 5:15 p.m., the sculpture at the southeast corner of Clinch Avenue and Market Street will be unveiled. (For more details, visit http://suffragecoalition.org/.)
