Online viewers can now observe spectacular East Tennessee landscape from higher vantage points, thanks to new drone footage of City of Knoxville parks.
Knoxville Parks and Recreation has released the pilot phase of a project called “City Parks: A Fresh Perspective,” which captures footage viewed from the lens of a drone.
“This project showcases the magnitude and beauty of what we have in our parks,” said Aaron Browning, Deputy Director of Knoxville Parks and Recreation. “From our perspective in a park, we can see an amenity or two, but this gives you a much bigger picture.”
The images include still aerial photos as well as video footage from a drone’s perspective as it soars over parks and flies under pavilions and play equipment.
Knoxville Parks and Recreation hired Richard Lee with Tailwind Productions to capture the aerial images with a drone and compile brief videos.
The parks seen in the initial phase include:
•
Sharp’s Ridge Veterans Memorial Park
• Sequoyah Park
(aerial photos only)
•
Victor Ashe Park
•
West Hills/John Bynon Park
•
Inskip Pool and Park
•
Adair Park
Browning said Parks and Recreation is seeking to continue this documentation of City parks in other parts of town. Due to FAA restrictions around Island Home Airport, there is a longer application process to use drones around some of Knoxville’s premier downtown parks, such as Caswell Park, Morningside Park and Suttree Landing.
