Officer Honored for Arrest of Dangerous Robbery Suspect

Posted: 12/19/2017
Rogero, Mesheid, RauschKnoxville Madeline Rogero and Chief David Rausch named Officer Alan Meisheid the Officer of the Month for September.  Officer Meisheid has been with the department since January 2007.

On August 14, 2017, at approximately 10:19 p.m., Officer Meisheid responded to a robbery at the Keith Avenue Market where two individuals had just had their cell phones stolen at gunpoint. Officer Meisheid was able to obtain images of the suspect and the suspect’s vehicle, which was then quickly shared with other officers.  The suspect was unable to be located.

More than a month later, Officer Meisheid located the suspect’s vehicle at an apartment complex on Merchant Drive.  Officer Meisheid was able to identify the suspect as Demetree Harris.

On September 18, 2017, Officer Meisheid was able to take Harris into custody and charge him with two counts of Aggravated Robbery.

Chief Rausch said, “Officer Meisheid did an excellent job from start to finish during this investigation.  Even with multiple other suspects who committed other crimes during this same time period, Officer Meisheid remembered this particular suspect’s vehicle description.  His tenacity on the case helped put a dangerous armed robber behind bars.”

On December 4, 2017, the suspect, Demetree Harris, pleaded guilty to two counts of Aggravated Robbery and received a sentence of twelve years at 85% consecutive to his federal probation.
