If you’re a business owner interested in bidding a contract with the City of Knoxville but don’t exactly know how to get started, make plans to attend the City’s free annual Business Breakfast on June 14 from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at the Civic Coliseum located at 500 Howard Baker Jr. Ave.

This free meet-and-greet breakfast gathering is geared to help business leaders and managers – and particularly the owners of small, locally owned businesses – better understand and compete in bidding for contracts with the City of Knoxville.

“Sometimes, an owner might think his or her business is too small to compete for a piece of the $55 million or so in contracts that the City enters into each year,” said Boyce Evans, the City’s Purchasing Director. “But that’s not true. Lots of small companies do business with the City, and there are strategies they can develop to successfully compete for City contracts.
 
“There are many ways that businesses can strategize and improve their bidding. It’s definitely an advantage to be familiar with the contract specifics. Sometimes, small companies collaborate and offer stronger collective bids, with each partner focusing on what it does best.”

Representatives from City departments will present information about specific projects, the anticipated date the work will be going out for bid, and bidder qualifications.
