Sinkhole Closes Section of Wesley Road

Posted: 12/19/2016
A sinkhole that opened up overnight has closed a section of Wesley Road in West Knoxville between Kingston Pike and the West Hills neighborhood.

The sinkhole, approximately 20 feet in diameter, has completely closed Wesley Road between Kingston Pike and Dorchester Drive.

Southbound traffic on Wesley Road is detoured at Sheffield Drive west to Portsmouth Drive and then to southbound Buckingham Road to Kingston Pike.

The City of Knoxville’s Engineering Department is in the process of hiring a contractor to cap the sinkhole and repair the roadbed.

The section of road is expected to be closed for six to eight weeks.
